Turbo Gum Collection 1-50

Turbo Gum Collection 51-120

Turbo was a brand of chewing gum made by the Turkish company “KENT” and sold in many European and Asian countries. The company produced numerous brands of chewing gum and candy in the late 80s and throughout the 90s.

“TURBO” was released in 1986 with numbers 1-50 (production Oct 1986-Nov 1987). Due to limited supply and low popularity in the beginning it didn’t attract collectors, which is why numbers of the 1st series became extremely rare later on.

Collecting “Turbo” wrappers gained popularity with mass-produced 2nd series numbers 51-120 (production Jun 1988-Mar 1990). It coincided with the Revolutions of 1989 in the Eastern Bloc and the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, which opened all those markets for imported goods.

If you were born between 1975 and 1985 in one of the former Soviet Socialist Republics or their allied Eastern European states and grew up there you must know what this was all about. The number of all complete sets worldwide is unknown.

Our boldest assumption is less than 30 (but most likely less than 15). Only 5 sets (or none) could be in a condition.

Estimated number of all who collected Turbo in their childhood, youth, or collect it today as adults is at least 100-150 million people. For many of them, imported candy was the first affordable piece of capitalism and remained important memorabilia of that period.
